Introduction

Userful Multiplatform™ provides the ability to "map" stations to "roles" -- such as video playback, URL kiosk or VDI -- via an intuitive drag-and-drop interface.

This document provides a brief overview of Userful's Station Mapping functionality. For more details on a given session container type, please refer to the specific session Guide (see below).

In the example shown to the right:

  • Station 1 (the onboard station) is mapped to a default Linux log-in role type to allow for system administration.
  • Stations 2-7 are mapped to a default Welcome Screen including Cloud Desktop, Web Browser and Signage Player.
  • Stations 8-10 are mapped to a Virtual Machine role type, for VDI solution.
  • Stations 11-14 are mapped to a web browser role type, for creating web kiosks.
  • Stations 15-16 are mapped to Signage Player, for media playback.

Access this functionality by opening the Control Center > Station Mapping.

Step 1: Configuring Session Containers

By default, all stations except host PC are mapped to Welcome Screen which is created automatically when user creates a session container.

In the event that the host PC is in the server room, the user can simply click icon on the bottom-right corner of the Welcome Screen to access Control Center. User can also type the IP address provided on the splash screen into any browser within the same LAN as the server and access the Control Center.

The first step is to create a role. To do so, click on "New Session Container". Give the new session a name, and then use the drop-down menu to select amongst the various session container types available:


Step 2: Drag & Drop Stations

Once session containers are created, stations can be "mapped" or assigned to those session containers by simply dragging-and-dropping the station icons to the desired session container.

Note: Changes will not take effect until the "Apply" button is clicked.


Station Status

Besides different roles, Station Mapping page also provides status of each and every station, as described below:

Offline station.png Offline Station.
  • Disconnected stations(status offline) have black monitor with an option to remove.
Online station.png Online Station.
  • Assigned stations have blue monitor with station id on it.



** VMWare and Citrix Session Container

Though not part of Userful Multiplatform™ install, user can install VMWare View Client and Citrix session containers using following CLI-commands:

  • Type in the following command to install VMWare View Client:
yum install userful-plugin-vmware-view
  • Type in the following command to install Citrix session container:
yum install userful-plugin-citrix
  • After installing the packages, open Control Center > Station Mapping > New Session Container
Citrix and VMWare View will now be available as role types.
  • Now, follow the steps of creating session container and mapping stations through Control Center >Station Mapping .

In order to remove the packages installed, simply type in:

yum remove <session-container-name>

where <session-container-name> represents plugin name (e.g. userful-plugin-citrix).


Please Note: Userful strongly recommends thorough testing before deployment. We do not provide support for VMWare and Citrix infrastructure and is not responsible for any damage done.


*** Rise Vision Player Session Container

Though not part of Userful Multiplatform™ standard install, user can install Rise Vision Player session container from Control Center > System Operations > Third Party Add-Ons. Once installed, Rise Vision Player session container is listed under Station Mapping > New Session Container drop-down as an available session container.
