Userful's "Ultimate" license enables users to play multiple content in inset window(s), while the main content continues to play in the background. Users can decide size and location of the inset windows while configuring the source.

  • Picture-In-Picture source does not support audio.
  • Picture-In-Picture source does not utilize Nvidia GPU so video playback may not be as smooth as Signage Player source.

Userful strongly recommends to test your use case before using Picture-In-Picture source in production system.

Mapping: Creating a Picture-In-Picture Source

Creating Picture-In-Picture Source

Mapping allows you to bind a specific display(s) to Picture-In-Picture source. To create this source:

  1. Click on Mapping > New Source New Source Icon.png button. From the drop-down menu select "Picture-In-Picture" as the preferred source type and give it a name.

  2. Select the source that will play in background.

  3. Click Add Source button to open Configure Inset Source dialog window.
    • Select the source from the dropdown that will play in inset window(s).
    • Specify the value of x and y coordinates. (i.e., top-left corner position of the inset, relative to the background)
    • Specify the width and height of the inset in percentage.
    • Specify the resolution of the inset source in pixels.
    • Click OK to complete the process.

  4. Click OK to complete the process.

This will create a Picture-In-Picture source with assigned Virtual Displays; equal to the total number of inset source(s) and background source.

Transparent overlays

Users can create sources with images that have transparent backgrounds to create customized screens. This is extremely helpful in cases where signage requires custom text or a logo on top of the background or to brand a video.

Simply create a “Signage Player” source and add in an image file with a transparent background (a PNG file for-instance). After that, use the inset settings to position the image in the desired location.

Map Displays to Picture-In-Picture Source

Once the source is created, displays or video walls can be "mapped" or assigned by simply dragging-and-dropping the display or video wall icons to the Picture-In-Picture source. Changes will not take effect until the "Apply" button is clicked.

To change the existing source configuration (e.g., to change the background source), click on the source name to open the "Edit Source" window and make the changes.

Interaction with Picture-In-Picture source

Userful software enables users to interact with the interactive sources (e.g., Userful Desktop, Web Browser) within Picture-In-Picture as described below:

Display Settings
  • Click on the Virtual Display Icon.png Virtual Display icon to open the "Display Settings" dialog box as shown in the image to the right.
  • Click on the Interactive Viewer Interactive Viewer Icon.png icon to start remote interaction.
This will open a separate tab in the browser so that the user can access or make changes to the session.
  • Select among various scaling options given at the top of the Interactive View window.
  • Close the tab to stop the remote interaction with the source.

Please note that interaction is only possible with the Interactive sources (e.g., Linux Desktop, Web Browser etc.) and not with the non-interactive sources (e.g., Signage Player, Network Streamer etc.)
