Desktop Streamer (VNC) allows users to share the desktop of a remote system and also control it with your local mouse and keyboard, just like you would do sitting in front of that computer. You just need to run a server i.e. TightVNC on the system that you want to access remotely.

Note: Desktop Streamer (VNC) source does not support audio, it is recommended only for capturing low demanding content e.g. data visualization.

Please use Supported Capture Cards for other high demanding content e.g., video playback. Userful strongly recommends thoroughly testing Desktop Streamer session with anticipated usage scenario.

Install and Configure Tight VNC

In order to capture VNC as a source, a VNC Server must first be configured. See Configuring VNC Servers for information.

Mapping: Creating a Desktop Streamer (VNC) Source

Creating Desktop Streamer (VNC) source

Mapping allows you to bind displays or video wall to the Desktop Streamer (VNC) source. To create "Desktop Streamer" source:

  1. Click on Mapping > New Source New Source Icon.png. From the drop-down menu select "Desktop Streamer (VNC)" as preferred source type and give a name.

  2. Enter the IP address or hostname of the VNC server.

  3. Enter the port number e.g. default value is 5900.

  4. Enter the password of the VNC server.

  5. Enable fullscreen mode to set the scaling to full screen.

  6. Disable viewonly mode to interact using keyboard and mouse.

  7. Click "OK" to complete the process.

For detailed instructions about server-side configuration, please visit TightVNC.

Map Displays to Desktop Streamer (VNC) source

Once the source is created, displays or video wall can be "mapped" or assigned by simply dragging-and-dropping the display or video wall icon to the Desktop Streamer source. The mapped display or the video wall will show the content running on the Server (i.e. remote system).

To change the source configuration (for example, to change the port number), click on the source name to open the "Edit Source" window and make the changes.

Changes will not take effect until the "Apply" button is clicked.

Please Note: You are responsible for complying with the server side (i.e. remote system) configuration and application vendor's license agreements.
