Introduction

This How To provides instructions for installing v-Class on Userful Multiplatform.

Note: v-Class requires a paid license. If you are interested in trying v-Class on a pilot basis, please contact your Userful representative.

What is v-Class?

v-Class is a classroom management and educational content management tool that is compatible with Userful Multiplatform. This software allows teachers to monitor students PCs in a classroom, exchange messages with students, and even "take over" student workstations for demonstrations. In addition, teachers can create and manage curriculum, including quizzes, displaying content and applications.

v-Class has two components: v-Class Student and v-Class Teacher.

Licensing

v-Class comes with 60 days trial license. If you want to purchase a license, please send an email to lms-license@userful.com with following information:

  • Organization Name
  • Address
Suite #, Street Address, City, State/Province, Postal/ZIP Code, Country
  • Contact Name
  • Email Address
  • OS (Userful Multiplatform or Windows - VDI)
  • Number of Student Licenses
  • Number of Teacher Licenses


Installing/Uninstalling v-Class

With Userful Multiplatform 7.0 and latest

With Userful Multiplatform 7.0, Userful provides the ability to install/uninstall v-Class directly through Control Center. To install v-Class, simply :

  • Open Control Center and navigate to System Operations > System Updates > Third-party Add ons > Install Third-party Add-ons
  • Select checkbox next to vClass Learning Management System and hit "Apply"
  • Both v-Class Teacher and v-Class Student can be found under Applications > Education


Please Note: For running v-Class on Windows VMs, VM Network Adapter must be set to "Bridged Adapter" under VirtualBox > Settings > Network tab.
Contact your Userful representative for details.


At any point, if you wish to uninstall v-Class, follow the following steps to remove vClass and all dependency packages from Userful Multiplatform:

  • Open Control Center and navigate to System Operations > System Updates > Third-party Add ons > Install Third-party Add-ons
  • Uncheck the checkbox next to vClass Learning Management System and hit "Apply"
  • Both v-Class Teacher and v-Class Student will be removed from Applications > Education
  • No reboot required.

With Previous Versions

To install v-Class into the Userful Multiplatform environment:

  1. Log in to the system on a Linux desktop.
  2. Go to System > Administration > Add/Remove Programs
  3. In the top left corner of the Add/Remove Programs window there is a search box. Search for "v-class" and click "Find".
  4. Three packages should be found. Click the checkbox (or double-click the package icon) to mark the following packages for installation:
    • vclass-common
    • v-class-student-desktop
    • v-class-teacher-desktop
  5. Click the "Apply" button.
    • You may be asked to install additional packages; if so, click "Install" to confirm that this is okay.
    • You will need to provide a root password in two separate dialogue boxes to complete installation.
  6. When installation is complete, close the "Add/Remove Programs" application.
  7. Reboot the computer.
    • This step is essential in order for v-Class to start properly.

  8. After the system reboot, both v-Class Teacher and v-Class Student can be found under Applications > Education.
