Introduction

Managing Displays

Displays is where you manage all Zero Clients or uClients assigned to a system.

uClient is a software app that installs or ships on supported platforms, such as the Userful uClient Adapter and supported LG WebOS platforms. uClient-powered devices can pair to both On-Premise and Cloud servers.

A Zero Client is a specialized device with no local processing or storage. They operate exclusively with On-Premise servers and are available directly from Userful.


View All Displays

Displays page lists all the display devices, with a summary of information about each display. The icons show the display's status at-a-glance:

Display Available.png Display, Available
  • Displays that have not been assigned to any Userul server have green display icon.
Display Unmapped.png Display, Unmapped
  • Assigned displays that have not been mapped to any source have black display icon with display ID.
Display Online.png Display, Online
  • Assigned displays have blue display icon with display ID.
Display Orphaned.png Display, Orphaned
  • Displays that are assigned to an offline Userful server appear in light gray color. Orphaned displays can be viewed but cannot be edited (such as applying firmware updates, or changing the name, or applying the server's DPMS settings) until you lock them to an online Userful server.
Unsupported Device.png Display, Problem
  • Assigned displays that have an unsupported device attached to it have red display icon with display ID.
Failover Display.png Display, Secondary Server
  • Displays that get assigned to the Secondary server after the process of Failover have orange display icon.




Assigning and Releasing Displays

Network receiver devices must be assigned to a Userful server to function. To the right of the display icons is the column of Check-box; displays can be assigned to or released from the Userful server with the checkboxes in that column. Once assigned the "Userful Server" column displays the server name next to the assigned display.


Assign/Unassign individual displays

  • To assign a display, click an empty checkbox (a check mark will appear), then click the "Apply" button
  • To release a display, click a checked box (the check mark will disappear), then click the "Apply" button

Several displays can be assigned and/or released simultaneously by clicking multiple checkboxes

Assign/Unassign all displays

  • To assign all displays; click on the checkbox next to "Lock to <server name>" column and then click the "Apply" button.
  • To unassign all displays; click the checked box next to "Lock to <server name>" column and then click the "Apply" button.


Setting Display Name and/or Location

It is possible to edit the name and location of the display by clicking the pencil icon across the corresponding entry. A text input box will appear in place of the existing entry; simply type in a new entry. To cancel editing, refresh the page.
Changes will not be saved until the "Apply" button is clicked.

Configure Network Settings for Zero Clients

Clicking on the Zero Client's IP Address opens the network settings configuration box for that display.

By default, Zero Clients automatically receive a DHCP lease.

To use DHCP for the network display, click the IP address of that display and ensure there is a checkmark in the "Use DHCP" checkbox.

To assign a static IP Address to a network display, clear the checkmark from the box; the IP Address and Subnet text input boxes will become editable. Enter a valid IP Address and Subnet mask, then click "OK".

Please Note: Even if using static IP settings for network devices, a router is still recommended for two reasons:

  1. A DHCP server (which is provided by a router) is needed to initially connect to displays, in order to configure settings (including static IP addresses).
  2. A router serves to isolate the rest of the network from the (potentially) large volume of traffic between the Userful server and displays.


Reset a Display

Occasionally, it may be necessary to reset an individual receiver device. If the display is frozen in an abnormal state or part way through an operation, the solution is to reset that device. To physically reset the receiver device:

  • Click the Reset button across the corresponding display under Control Center > Displays , or
  • Click on the Reset Display Reset Display Icon.png button on Display Settings dialog window under Control Center > Mapping , or
  • Press power off and on button on the network receiver device, or
  • Unplug and then replug the network cable attached to the corresponding receiver device.

Note: Resetting a receiver device will reset the entire video wall if it is part of a video wall configuration.

Audio Settings

Displays that are not part of a Zone have their audio managed from Display Settings.

Click the individual Display and change Audio Settings at the bottom. These settings do not appear for Virtual Displays.



Firmware Updates

Occasionally new firmware updates are released to improve the performance of network receiver devices. Having the correct firmware version is essential for proper functioning of displays.

If network receiver devices have firmware that is not up to date, "Update Firmware" button appears across the "Reset" button to notify administrators.

Firmware updates can be applied both to unassigned or assigned displays. If an assigned network receiver device has firmware that is not up to date, the firmware update process will automatically un-assign the display, update the firmware and restart the device and lock the device back to the primary server.

To update firmware for individual devices, click on the "Update Firmware" button for each display that should have firmware updates applied, then click "Apply" to confirm the action.
