How To Change BIOS Settings

Introduction

This document covers the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) settings that need to be configured before installing Userful™ software appliance.

Note:
  • Different computers have different BIOS and therefore the following instructions are guidelines only.
  • There may exist possibility that change in one BIOS setting could prevent Userful host from starting correctly. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions exactly, if in any doubt.
  • It is safe to turn off the Userful host only after exiting the BIOS Setup screen. Please do not turn the power off while BIOS is saving the Computer setup changes.

Configure BIOS Settings

To install Userful™ software appliance, follow the below-mentioned steps depending on the model of the Certified PC used.

  1. Lenovo ThinkCentre M700 SFF
  2. HP EliteDesk 800 G3 Series

1. Lenovo ThinkCentre M700 SFF

  • Turn-on or Restart the Userful host.
  • Press F1 key repeatedly until a BIOS Setup screen opens.
  • Go to "Startup" tab.
  • Enable CSM (Compatibility Support Module), or
This will automatically disable "Secure Boot" and set the "Boot Priority" to Legacy first.
  • Select the Boot Mode to "UEFI Only" to install Userful™ on UEFI enabled BIOS.
  • Save changes and Exit the BIOS.
  • Restart Userful host.

2. HP EliteDesk 800 G3 Series

  • Turn-on or Restart the Userful host.
  • Press F10 key repeatedly until a BIOS Setup screen opens.
  • Go to "Secure Boot Configuration" under "Advanced" tab.
  • Select "Legacy Support Enable and Secure Boot Disable", or
  • Select "Legacy Support Disable and Secure Boot Disable" to install Userful™ on UEFI enabled BIOS.

Please ensure that Master Boot Record (MBR) Security is disabled under Computer Setup > Security.

Hardware Virtualization

These options control the hardware virtualization features and should only be enabled if using Virtual Machine source.

  • Go to "System Options" under "Advanced" tab.
  • Enable Virtualization Technology (VTx).
  • Enable Virtualization Technology Directed I/O (VTd)
Storage Controller for Intel Optane
  • Go to "System Options" under "Advanced" tab
  • Disable "Configure Storage Controller for Intel Optane"
  • Save changes and Exit the BIOS.
  • Restart Userful host.
Configure Built-in Device Options

If no GPU is installed in the Userful host then the default VGA Device is "Intel VGA Controller". If Nvidia GPU is installed in the Userful host then the default VGA Device itself changes to "Nvidia VGA Controller". Follow the below mentioned steps to bring back the default VGA device to Intel VGA Controller:

  • Connect display to the Nvidia GPU.
  • Enter the BIOS of the Userful host by pressing the F10 key repeatedly.
  • Go to "Advanced" tab and then Built-in Device Options.
  • Select VGA device as "Intel VGA Controller".
  • Hit F10 key, save the changes and Exit.
  • Connect the VGA cable to the Intel GPU to bring back the display.
  • Restart Userful host.
