How to Print

Each application has its own menu or icon to let you print. Below we will consider a few common examples. Other applications will operate in a similar fashion.

Installed Office Suite Application (Wordprocessor, Spreadsheet, Presentation, etc.)

There are different ways to print from office suite:

  • File Menu -- this is generally the best way to print, since it gives you the most control and allows you to check which printer you are sending the print job to.
    1. Use File > Save (or the Save icon on the toolbar) often to make sure your work will not be lost.
    2. When you are finished editing your document, click on File > Print.... The Print dialog should appear.
    3. Check the Printer Name.
      • If it says "Generic Printer", click on the name and a list should pop up. Select the appropriate printer from the list.
      • If "Generic Printer" is the only printer in the list, see the Office Suite Print Troubleshooting FAQ.
    4. Make sure Print to file is not checked.
    5. Set the Print range to the appropriate pages you want to print.
    6. Check Copies and make sure it is correct.
      • The first time you print a document, we recommend printing only one copy to make sure everything is fine. After that, feel free to print multiple copies.
    7. Click on OK.
    8. If there is a cost for printing, a notification message will appear telling you how much it will cost. Click on OK if the cost is acceptable.
    9. Go to the appropriate printer and pay the fee.
  • Print Icon -- use this after the first time to start the print job immediately.
    1. Click on the Print File Directly icon on the toolbar at the top of the window.
    2. If there is a cost for printing, a notification message will appear telling you how much it will cost. Click on OK if the cost is acceptable.
    3. Go to the appropriate printer and pay the fee.

Web Browser (Firefox, Epiphany, etc.)

Web browsers will also allow you to use the File menu to print Web pages.

  1. Click on File > Print... to bring up the print dialog.
  2. Make sure the proper Printer Name is selected.
  3. Set Print Range to the appropriate pages you want to print.
  4. Check Copies and make sure it is correct.
    • The first time you print a document, we recommend printing only one copy to make sure everything is fine. After that, feel free to print multiple copies.
  5. Click on Print.

  7. Go to the appropriate printer and pay the fee.
