System Diagnostics is a great way to check the system performance. This tool reports CPU and memory performance on all displays and helps administrators to identify and analyze the problem in the event of system malfunction. If there is any problem you will see one or more notifications on the top right corner of Control Center. You can either close these notifications, learn more about the issue or take an action to resolve the issue.

This document highlights various diagnostics checks done on the system running Userful™ software appliance.


Licensing notification provides status of system licensing. It specifies the licensing information including number of licensed displays. For more information about licensing, visit Licensing page.

Maintenance and Support Status

This notification provides status of Maintenance and Support Contract for your Userful host. For more information please contact your Userful Sales Representative, or visit Maintenance and Support Renewal FAQs.

Reboot Recommended

For optimal performance, it is recommended to reboot Userful host after updating it. Clicking on the "Resolve" link will bring up a confirmation dialog and once confirmed system will reboot.

Userful Host Hardware

Userful™ software appliance install checks if the Userful host's hardware is adequate for optimal performance and better user experience. System runs various tests on the Userful host including:

Host CPU

For optimal performance, minimum 4 CPU cores are required. This is to provide enough CPU power to render the content.

Host GPU

For optimal performance, an Intel 4th generation (or better) GPU is required. This is to render and decode the content. BIOS of the Userful host must be configured to enable Intel® Integrated GPU.
Under the system BIOS go to Advanced > Built-in Device Options > VGA Boot Device, and select Intel VGA Controller (Integrated) from the available options.
Please note that HP EliteDesk system is considered as an example to quote these settings.

If there is no Intel GPU in the system:

  • Onboard display will not be visual
  • Session Acceleration through Intel GPU will not be possible
  • Intel GPU will not be accessible for offloading
Host RAM

A minimum of 8 GB RAM is recommended for the appliance.

Hard Disk Space

Minimum of 5 GB disk space is recommended for installing the OS and sample content. However for large media files, large disk space is recommended.

Hardware Virtualization

This notification ensures that BIOS of the Userful host must be configured to enable Hardware Virtualization CPU setting, for using Virtual Machine (VDI) source.
Under the system BIOS go to Advanced > System Options tab, check the Virtualization Technology(VTx) check box and save the settings.
Please note that HP EliteDesk system is considered as an example to quote these settings.

VDI Setup

This notification ensures that VirtualBox Extension Pack (VDI) is installed through Control Center > Settings > Check for Available Packages for using Virtual Machine (VDI) source.


Display Network

This check ensures all the zero-clients are running at full speed i.e. 1000Mbps.

Network Latency

This notification ensures that the Userful host is connected to a gigabit ethernet connection to make sure that network doesn’t become bottleneck while pushing the content to the displays.

Network DHCP Status

By default all zero-clients and Userful host gets the IP address from DHCP server. If there are more than one DHCP servers in the network there might a conflict and this notification appears. If you see the Duplicate DHCP server error; ensure that there is only one active DHCP server in the network.

Network IP Conflicts

If there are two zero-client devices with same IP Address, system will show "Duplicate IP Address Detected" notification. If you are using DHCP server to assign IP Address to zero-client, restarting the device should fix the problem. If you have assigned the IP address manually, assign the correct IP Address from Control Center > Displays.

Network Bandwidth

This check ensures that the network bandwidth usage is below the threshold value for better system performance, this notification will appear if it goes beyond the threshold value.

Zero Client Health

To fix this error notification, simply power cycle the faulty zero-client device.

Software Update Congruency

This notification ensures that the ISO includes all the latest packages and is synced with the Userful live server. Please contact your Userful Sales Representative if you see this notification on the top right corner of Control Center.

Unsupported Devices

USB Hubs/Devices

When a zero-client device has an unsupported device (e.g., devices with built-in USB hubs i.e. multimedia keyboards, monitors, etc.) attached to it, this notification shows an "Unsupported Device Attached" error. Remove the offending device(s) connected to the zero-client device until the error message disappears.

Extra Signage Player Codecs

Userful™ software appliance require some codecs to support a wide range of video and image formats to play signage content. This check will notify users if respective codecs are not installed. Clicking on the "Resolve" link will download the required codecs.
